Cambridge, MA --- Senior Taylor V'Dovec (Blaine, WA) totaled 22 points and MIT poured in a dozen 3-pointers as the host Engineers defeated WPI, 74-57, Wednesday night in a NEWMAC women's basketball matchup inside Rockwell Cage. It was the most triples by a Crimson and Gray opponent since Wheaton netted 15 on February 14, 2015.

MIT led by seven (7-0) nearly two minutes into the contest and extended the advantage to 17 (19-2) with 3:06 left in the opening quarter. Junior Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, CA) then totaled six points while bookending 10-3 run to the end of the frame (22-12).

After the host Engineers took the 28-14 lead, freshman Bailey Savage (Charlton, MA) fueled a 6-0 run capped by Vinson at 4:15 to pull within eight. Moments later, Freshman Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, NJ) sandwiched a 3-pointer by senior Alyssa Paul (Schaghticoke, NY) with a pair of triples to send the hosts into the break with a 37-23 margin.

The hosts lead increased to 20 late in the third before the Boynton Hillers shaved the deficit to 11 with 4:03 to play; however an 8-2 run solidified the victory for MIT.

Senior Kara Holinski (Livonia, MI) scored 16 with a team-best four 3-pointers while Antonakakis also knocked down a quartet of threes. Senior Kristen Ngan (Sudbury, MA) shared game-high honors with eight rebounds.

Vinson and freshman Victoria Mirecki (Rock Tavern, NY) teamed up for a game-best 25 bench points with 14 and 11, respectively. Savage led the starters with 13 points and eight boards as Paul added 10 points for WPI.

The visitors had a 21-29 edge in rebounds but committed six more turnovers. MIT capitalized with a 22-11 advantage in points off turnovers and had a 13-6 difference in second chance points, and 28-24 in the paint.

WPI (4-4, 0-3 NEWMAC) returns to Harrington Auditorium Saturday for a 2pm NEWMAC matchup with Clark while MIT (5-3, 2-1) hosts Emmanuel at 3pm.
