OSWEGO, N.Y - The Oswego State women's basketball team fell to Cortland by a score of 57-40 Saturday in the Max Ziel Gymnasium.  Oswego drops to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in SUNYAC play.  Cortland improves their record to 10-6 (8-2).

Cortland raced out to an 11-0  lead in the first 3:40 of the game.  Courtney Ameele got the Oswego offense going with a 3-pointer at the 6:08 mark to halt the run.  Cortland would put another 10-0 run together taking advantage of solid defense and 10 Lakers' turnovers during the quarter.  Junior Shana Crespo had seven points in the first to lead the Red Dragons' offense.

Oswego switched up their defense in the second, moving to a 2-3 zone and held Cortland to only two points on a fast break layup by the halfway mark of the quarter.  Erin Gantley got the offense going with seven points of her own in the quarter, but cold shooting prevented the Lakers from chipping away at the lead as the team shot only 20.0% in the half.  Cortland took a 37-16 lead into the half.

In the third, the Lakers defense began to smother the Red Dragons.  A 7-0 run helped the team dig into the lead, but a trio of Cortland 3-pointers, including two by junior Kristy Vitucci, in the last three minutes helped the Red Dragons extend out to 48-25 heading into the fourth.

Oswego came out fighting in the final stanza as the team put together an early 9-0 run on a Raiven Encarnacionlayup, a pair of baskets by Quincey Zimmerman and a Rachael Windhausen layup.  The Lakers were able to get the deficit down to 13 with just over four minutes remaining but couldn't complete the comeback.  Oswego outscored Cortland 24-20 in the second half.

Windhausen led the team with 10 points and 11 rebounds, her fourth double-double on the season.  Zimmerman had eight points and three assists while Gantley had seven points.  Vitucci led the Red Dragons with 13 points.

The team returns to the court next Friday when they travel to Geneseo for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
