FDU WOMEN USE BIG FOURTH QUARTER TO DOWN KING'S 66-55

MADISON, NJ -- The host FDU-Florham women's basketball team broke open a tie game after three quarters by outscoring visiting King's College 24-13 in the final quarter as the Devils posted a 66-55 victory Wednesday night in Madison, NJ.

With the win FDU improved to 15-5 and 7-2 in the Freedom Conference while King's fell to 11-9 and 4-5.


King's came out of the gates and took a quick 6-0 lead thanks to a pair of inside baskets from Olivia Hoffman and a driving lay-up by Kayla Feairheller. Kasey Seitz later followed with a three-pointer to give the Lady Monarchs a 12-5 lead with 2:19 left in the first period. After a three-pointer from the Devils, King's closed out the quarter with a 7-0 spurt, keyed by a short jumper from Sara Krupinksi and five points by Feairheller to put the Lady Monarchs up 19-8 heading into the second period.

The Devils used a 15-3 run to start the second quarter to take its first lead of the game at 23-22 with 2:42 remaining in the half. King's would eventually forge a 27-26 lead into the break. The teams would play on even terms throughout the third quarter and entered the final period locked in a 42-42 tie.

After the teams traded baskets, Alyssa McDonough canned a three-pointer for FDU and Shalette Brown scored back-to-back baskets to put the Devils on top 51-44 with 8:05 on the clock.  After King's buckets by Alexis Steeber and Krupinski cut the score to 51-48 with 6:22 left Brown again scored two straight baskets to push the lead to 55-48 with 5:44 to go.

Seitz drained a jumper for King's to bring the score to 55-50 at the 4:44 mark but FDU would end the game with an 11-5 run to walk away with the victory. 

Feairheller posted 14 points and three assists for King's while Hoffman also added 14 points with four rebounds and two blocks. Krupinski netted 10 points with four assists while Fabian tallied six points and seven rebounds. Seitz chipped in with five points and three boards.  

Brown led FDU with 17 points and 14 rebounds while McDonough followed with 15 points.

King's, which entered the game averaging 18.5 foul shots attempts per-game, went to the foul line just three times (1-3) in the game, compared to  an 11-15 showing for the Devils. FDU also out-rebounded King's 44-34 and had 16 offensive rebounds.

King's returns to the court Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home matchup with Manhattanville College.
