PURCHASE, N.Y. - Seniors Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) and Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) combined for 34 points and nine assists to lead the Manhattanville women's basketball team to a 78-57 victory over King's (Pa.) College Sunday afternoon in MAC Freedom action at Kennedy Gymnasium.

With the win, the Valiants now have more wins this season than they did in the entirety of the 2014-15 season, and also keep pace with FDU-Florham for second place in the MAC Freedom, trailing first place DeSales University by just one game.

Despite some early foul trouble for the Valiant forwards, Manhattanville (12-4 overall, 4-2 MAC Freedom) was able to penetrate into the lane with their guards and get several good looks at the basket, leading to 12 of the 20 Valiant first-quarter points coming inside the paint.

Raaf and Pabon combined for 20 points in the first half, helping to lead Manhattanville on a 15-4 run to start the second quarter to take a 13-point lead. King's (10-7 overall, 3-3 MAC Freedom) would respond, however, using an 11-2 run of its own to end the quarter and cut the deficit to four heading into halftime.

Manhattanville's defense put the pressure on the Lady Monarchs in the third quarter, holding the visitors to just 25 percent shooting from the field and 14 points in the quarter, extending the lead back to double-digits. FreshmanKayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) played a major role on the interior in the quarter, scoring six points and helping to shut down the Lady Monarchs on the defensive end.

The Valiants continued to pull away in the final quarter, as Pabon added another six points for her game-high total of 20 for the afternoon. Manhattanville recorded six steals in the quarter, helping them to record 18 points in the half and 42 points in the paint to pick up the victory.

Manhattanville will turn its focus to Wednesday, as they prepare for a showdown with FDU-Florham in a battle for second place in the MAC Freedom. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Madison, N.J.
