Livermon and Vugteveen Lead R-MC past Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va.—Junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) led all scorers with 18 points and junior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, VA / Amelia Academy) added 16 points and recorded eight rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Bridgewater 72-54 Tuesday night in ODAC action for its eighth straight victory.

Junior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) recorded 13 points and seven boards for the first-place Yellow Jackets (13-2, 6-1 ODAC).

R-MC went on a 22-7 run in the first 10 minutes of the first half. Vugteveen knocked down the first five points for the Yellow Jackets and the drive was capped by a layup from senior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) with 10:17 remaining until halftime. The Eagles (8-7, 3-4 ODAC) cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 12 points at 8:53. R-MC responded with a 19-6 run capped by a jumper from senior Caroline Young (Burke, VA / Lake Braddock Secondary) to stretch R-MC's advantage to 25 points with 30 seconds remaining until halftime. The Yellow Jackets would hold a 41-16 lead at the break.

An early basket by Livermon in the second half stretched R-MC's advantage to 27 points with 19:47 left to play. The Eagles cut the Yellow Jacket's margin to 22 with 15:53 remaining but the Yellow Jackets responded and a layup by Vugteveen at 14:03 extended the advantage to 26 points. The Eagles traded baskets with the Yellow Jackets for the next 10 possessions holding the Yellow Jackets' advantage to 25 points. In the final seven minutes, the Eagles went on a 12-7 run and cut the deficit to less than 20 points. The Yellow Jackets would claim a 72-54 victory as Vugteveen blocked the final shot of the game from the Eagles.

Cassidy Burkholder led the Eagles with 15 points and nine boards.

The Yellow Jackets return to Crenshaw Gymnasium for an ODAC contest against Emory & Henry on Saturday January 24 at 1:00 p.m.
