The Baruch College Bearcats won the mid-season battle for first place by defeating the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College, 84-60, in a CUNYAC contest on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.
The conference contest was competitive through the first 14 minutes, but the Bearcats finished the half with a 20-7 run to take a 38-24 advantage into the break.
Francess Henryquickly started the second half with a three as the Bearcats would go on to score the first 12 points en route to the big home win of 84-60.
Seven different players scored at least eight points as the Bearcats (9-4, 6-0 CUNYAC) relied on experience and defense (8 blocks) to pull out the win, while also handing the Bulldogs their first conference loss of the season.
Henry (8 rebounds, 5 blocks) and Iyana Abrams(6 assists, 3 steals) each scored 15 points. Alicea Ulmerhad 14 points and eight rebounds. Sheridan Taylorfinished with a double-double of 12 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks.
The Bulldogs (8-5, 6-1 CUNYAC) shot only 30 percent (20-for-67) the entire game, which included 7-of-34 in the first half. Nicole Francomano led the visitors with 12 points and three assists.
Baruch will return to action on Wednesday, January 16, with a road contest at the Lightning of Lehman College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
