Nationally ranked DePauw runs past Stout in second half

GREENCASTLE, Ind (December 29, 2014) - UW-Stout stayed with 15th ranked DePauw University and held a three point halftime lead at the DePauw Tournament, but the Tigers opened the second half with a 12-0 run and went on to down the Blue Devils, 80-56, Monday.

Playing from behind most of the first half, Stout rallied from as much as an eight point first half deficit to take a 27-26 lead on a layup by Sarah Schoch (So, Chippewa Falls) with 4:17 left before halftime. The teams traded leads for the next two minutes. Jenna Goldsmith (So, St. Anthony, Minn) tied the score at 30-30 with 1:44 remaining.

Haley Froehlich (Sr, Mondovi) hit one free throw and Brea Boomer hit a bucket at the buzzer to give Stout the 33-30 lead into the intermission.

Led by six points by Abby Keller and four by Savannah Trees, the Tigers jumped out to a 42-33 lead three minutes into the second half, and Stout would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

DePauw (8-1) had five scorers in double digits, led by Emma Ondik with 17. Trees and Taylor Howard canned 13 points and Hannah Douglas and Keller finished with 10 points.

Stout (3-8) held DePauw to 37.5 percent shooting (12-32) in the first half, but the Tigers were rarely denied in the second half, hitting 70.4 percent of their second half shots (19-27) to finish shooting at 52.5 percent (31-59) for the game.

The Blue Devils were led by Boomer with 11 points. Schoch and Kyleigh Hebert each scored nine points.  Stout shot 33.9 percent (20-59) for the game from the floor.

DePauw held a slight edge off the boards, outrebounding Stout, 39-34.

Stout returns to conference play Saturday, Jan. 3 when they host UW-Platteville at 3 p.m. Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Jan. 7.
