Boston, Mass.-Sophomore guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, while freshman guard Jessa Rubera (Newton, MA) scored 11 off the bench, but it wouldn't be enough as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team fell, 63-58, on the road against UMass Boston in Little East action on Saturday afternoon.

The squads battled back and forth early, with the Beacons (5-4, 1-1 LEC) taking a 9-5 lead on a jump shot by sophomore guard Mallory Nelson (Topsham, ME) with 13:29 remaining. A Rubera long ball with 8:54 remaining knotted the game at 13-13 and the Anchorwomen (2-8, 1-1 LEC) took the lead on the next possession when sophomore guard Meghan Reall (Smithfield, RI) nailed a three-pointer off a feed from freshman guard Jess Korzec (West Brookfield, MA).

The two teams traded baskets down the stretch and a three-pointer by junior guard Michelle Lagrotteria (Niantic, CT) with six seconds left in the half gave the Anchorwomen the, 26-25, lead entering the break.

The Beacons opened the second half by scoring 13 of the first 20 points, capped by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Taje Burston (Springfield, MA) with 16:58 left to give the Beacons a 38-33 lead.

The Anchorwomen used a 9-0 run on three from three-point range to take a 42-38 advantage with 14:59 left to play. RIC held the lead until the 8:06 mark when UMB senior center Kristen Morrison (North Reading, MA) buried a layup off a feed from Burston. The Beacons would ride a solid defensive effort down the stretch, never allowing the Anchorwomen to get closer than two points, to take the 63-58 victory.

Junior forward Olivia Murphy (Canton, MA) recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards, while Morrison also recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and hauling in 13 boards. UMB shot 40.7 percent from the floor (22-for-54), 26.3 percent (5-for-19) from three-point range and 53.8 percent (14-for-26) from the charity stripe.

RIC was led by Moore's 16 points, while Korzec (12 points) and Rubera (11 point) also finished in double figures. RIC shot 30.5 percent (18-for-59) from the field, 40.0 percent (10-for-25) from downtown and 75.0 percent (12-for-16) from the charity stripe.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Bowdoin on Sunday, Jan. 4 (1 p.m.).
