Joyce, Thomas Combine for 41 Points in Albright Victory

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Freshman Jane Joyce and sophomore Shannon Thomas combined to score 41 points and the Albright women's basketball team used a big second-half rally to post its first victory of the season with a 93-87 win over Lehman in the consolation game of the Pablo Coto Tipoff Tournament on Sunday.

Joyce led the Lions with a career-high 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor, while Thomas added a career-high 20 points while making 7-of-15 shots from the floor.

Albright, which improved to 1-1 overall, also received a career-high 19 points from freshman Devan Horka and eight points and 15 rebounds from Kadijah Bishop.

Lehman (0-2) held a 59-47 lead after Jennifer Navarro connected on a three-pointer with 16:51 to play in the game.

Albright used a 6-0 run to climb to within 59-53 with 14:59 to play in the game, but Navarro answered with another three-pointer that extended the lead to 62-53 at the 14:45 mark of the second half.

Navarro drilled another three-point basket that extended the lead to 65-55 with 14:02 to play, but Albright would rally once again.

Jessica Venturelli capped a 7-0 run with a three-point play that brought the Lions to within 65-62 with 12:24 remaining in the second period.

A layup by Luisayra Madrigal gave Lehman a 74-69 lead with 8:58 remaining, but Albright would once again rally.

Two free throws by Emily O'Donnell and a layup by Kelecia Harris brought the Lions to within 74-73 with 7:33 to play.

Lehman pushed the lead to 76-73 with a layup, but Harris converted a jumper and Joyce gave the Lions a 77-76 lead with a jumper with 6:27 to play in the game.

Lehman made six straight free throws and a layup to regain the lead at 84-79 with 3:38 to play in the contest.

A three-pointer by Thomas jump started a 7-1 which gave the Lions the lead for good at 86-85 with 1:45 to play.

A layup by Horka pushed the lead to 88-85, but Lehman answered with a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 88-87 with 32 seconds to play in the game.

A free throw by Horka extended the lead to 89-87 and then Thomas and Joyce each made a pair of free throws to clinch the victory for Albright.

Harris was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in the two games. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Karin Walker of Lehman, Agatha Drozd of Delaware Valley and Kievanna Lacey and Miranda Krott of Marymount. Krott was named the tournament most valuable player.

Albright will open the home portion of its schedule on Saturday (Nov. 22) when it hosts Keystone at 1 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
