William Paterson Women’s Basketball Suffers First Loss, 67-57, at Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – A 13-1 second-half run allowed host Farmingdale State (2-1) to hand the William Paterson women's basketball team (2-1) its first loss of the season, 67-57, Nov. 19.

 

Junior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) and sophomore forward Maya Harris (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) paced the Pioneers with 12 points apiece, and junior forward Mary Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) finished with nine rebounds.

 

The Rams scored the first eight points of the game, but WP answered by scoring 19 of the next 24 to take its largest lead of the game, 19-13, with 7:35 remaining in the first half. With a 10-0 burst to end the period, Farmingdale State headed to the break with a 34-25 edge.

 

Three straight buckets by Harris pushed the Pioneers ahead at 48-46 with 10:34 to play, and two ties and pair of lead changes marked the next 80 seconds. Nine straight points put the Rams back in control (59-50, 7:08), and WP never got closer than eight for the rest of the contest.

 

Junior forward Alex Milne (Howell, N.J./Howell) contributed nine rebounds, junior guard Sara Luberto (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) posted nine tallies and four assists and Harris pulled down eight boards.

 

Junior guard Andrea Desvignes scored a game-high 26 points for Farmingdale State, senior guard Nicole Lanteri had 14 tallies and junior forward Nailah Cherry pulled down eight rebounds.

 

William Paterson will start conference play and open its home slate Saturday, Nov. 22, against Rutgers-Camden at 3:00 p.m.
