Desvignes Paces Rams in win over William Paterson

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored a game-high 26 points as the Farmingdale State women's basketball team earned a 67-57 non-conference win over William Paterson this evening. The Rams improved to 2-1 on the year, while the Pioneers fell to 2-1.

Trailing 24-18 with 4:59 remaining in the first half, senior guard Camille Romero (Bronx, N.Y.) hit back-to-back shots to pull the Rams within two. After a William Paterson free-throw, Farmingdale State closed the half on a 12-0 run capped off by a Romero 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Rams took a 34-25 lead into the break as Desvignes tallied 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting.

Farmingdale State led 46-39 before a 9-0 William Paterson run put the Pioneers ahead by two, 48-46, with 10:34 remaining.

Tied 50-50, the Rams used a 13-1 run to open up a 63-51 advantage with less than five minutes remaining. Farmingdale State held a double-digit lead over the final minutes en route to the 67-57 victory.

Desvignes pulled in five rebounds and had a game-high six steals to go along with her 26 points, while Romero had 12 points, six assists and four steals. Junior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting for the Rams.

The Pioneers were led by junior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J.) who scored a team-high 14 points, while junior forward Mary Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.Y.) recorded a game-high 12 rebounds.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Amherst where they will face Baruch on Saturday, November 22nd at 8:00 p.m.
