ARLINGTON (VA) – Marymount University took command midway through the first half and then held off a late Delaware Valley College rally as the host Saints captured the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament title with a 57-49 victory.

 

Marymount (2-0) and the Aggies (1-1) were tied at 13-13 with 8:53 left in the first half before the Saints ran off 13 straight points over the next three-plus minutes. Marymount eventually took a 34-21 lead into the break.

 

The Saints upped the lead to 15 on two occasions, the last at 42-27. Brittany Wood then hit back-to-back 3-pointers for Delaware Valley to make it a nine-point game with 12:34 remaining. Marymount went back up 13 at 46-33 when the Aggies scored 10 of the next 12 points for a 48-43 ballgame with 7:46 left on the clock. Brenna Coll had five of Delaware Valley's 10 points in the run.

 

It was still a five-point contest at 52-47 after Coll hit a free throw with 2:52 remaining. However, the Saints responded with five of the game's final seven points for the eight-point victory and the tournament crown.

 

Agatha Drozd was the lone Delaware Valley player named to the all-tournament team as she notched 15 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and seven steals over the two games. She had six points, five assists, five steals and three boards against Marymount. Coll finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Wood added 11 points and eight boards. Eireann Anastasi also hit double digits with 10 points.

 

Kievanna Lacey notched a game-high 15 points for Marymount. Miranda Krott had 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds as the Saints outrebounded Delaware Valley, 48-32, in the contest.
