Cabrini Women Stumble after Break, Fall 58-45 at Albright

More news about: Cabrini

READING, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team returned to the court after a 23 day break, and the rust showed as the Cavaliers fell to 7-2 with tonight's 58-45 loss at Albright College.  The nonconference loss snapped the Blue and White's seven game win streak.

Junior Amber Keys was the only Cavalier to reach double figures, tallying 16 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.  Seniors Brittany Sandone and Annie Rivituso and junior Megan Decker added six points.

Cabrini had its worst shooting display in 30 games, connecting on just 26% from the floor and missing each of its 22 field goal attempts.  After entering tonight's action shooting 65.2% from the free throw line, the Blue and White hit just 7-18 from the stripe.

The Cavaliers maintained a slim lead for much of the first half.  The Blue and White used a 9-0 spurt midway through the opening stanza to build a 22-12 lead with 5:46 to play.  Unfortunately, Keys' bucket was the final point of the half for Cabrini, as the Lions closed the half on a 13-0 run.

Albright extended its run with the first six points of the second half, as Decker's jumper ended the club's 8:24 scoreless streak.  Cabrini tied the score three times in the second half, including at 41 on senior Colleen Stewart's lay-up with 7:12 to play.  The Cavaliers suffered their second prolonged scoring drought of the game, as Albright went on an 11-0 run over the next 5:29.  Rivituso's lay-up with 91 seconds on the clock ended the run but the damage was done.

The Blue and White forced 34 turnovers on the night and converted them into 21 points, but its -21 rebounding deficit (52-31) was the team's largest deficit since a loss at Widener to open the 2009-10 season.  While Cabrini grabbed 14 offensive boards to Albright's six, the Lions grabbed 46 defensive rebounds.

Shannon Thomas led Albright (6-2) with 17 points, while Kelecia Harris paired 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blue and White will look to rebound this weekend as they visit New York City for the NYU Holiday Tournament.  The Cavaliers will face Juniata (5-4) on Friday and the host Violets (8-0) on Saturday.  Both games tip at 3:00 p.m.
