Albright Women's Basketball Knocks Off Cabrini, 58-45

Following the conclusion of the men's Holiday Tournament, the Albright College women's basketball team hosted the visiting Cavaliers of Cabrini College Monday night in the Bollman Center.

The reigning CSAC champs came into the game with a 7-1 record, following a 92-43 blowout of Cairn University earlier in the month. Following a loss to Connecticut College to start the season, Cabrini won their next seven games and looked to keep the streak going against Albright.

Tied 41-41 with just over six minutes to play, a three from freshman Shannon Thomas gave Albright a lead it would not relinquish en route to a 58-45 victory at home.

Thomas led the way for the Lions, scoring 17 points with three rebounds and a steal in 40 minutes of play.

Sophomore Kelecia Harris continued to be a force for Albright with yet another double-double, scoring 12 points, adding 12 rebounds and four blocks in 22 minutes. Senior Kristi McFadden played well, coming down with six rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

The Cavaliers were able to capitalize on the Lions' 34 turnovers, scoring 21 points off of Albright giveaways. However, Cabrini was unable to drain shots consistently, shooting a poor 26.0% from the field in comparison to 48.7% for the Lions.

The Red and White had struggled to get it together early. Turning the ball over 19 times in the first half, Albright found itself down 22-12 with just less than six minutes to go in the first half. Despite the bad start, the women surged ahead 23-22 at the half thanks to a Kadijah Bishop layup to give the Lions the lead.

Albright added to their lead early in the second half, pulling away to lead 33-26. Turnovers continued to be an issue and would prevent the Lions from building a cushion.

Albright is now 6-2 on the season and will play next on Thursday, January 2 as they host the Neumann Knights at 7 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
