Blugold Women's Basketball Falls to Delaware Valley

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Blugolds.com) – Playing in its first game since Dec. 11, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell 72-62 to Delaware Valley College (Pa.) at the Land of Magic Classic at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University today.

The Blugolds started the game outscoring the Aggies 7-2 over the first three minutes but that was the Blugolds' largest lead of the game. Delaware Valley took a lead 13 minutes into the game and never trailed the rest of the way.

The Aggies led by just five points at halftime (35-30) but came out in the second half and made two three-pointers to get up by 11. The Blugolds got back to within two points, three times, but Delaware Valley outscored the Blugolds 23-15 over the final nine minutes to beat the Blugolds by 10.

A big difference in the game was turnovers as the Blugolds committed 25 while the Aggies had 15. Delaware Valley scored 29 points off turnovers while the Blugolds scored 16.

Teenie Lichtfuss (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) led the Blugolds in scoring with 19 points while Kristin Sahr (Jr.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) added 12. Courtney Lewis (Jr.-Prairie du Chien, Wis.) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. The Blugolds outrebounded the Aggies 40-23.

Eau Claire drops to 2-9 overall while Delaware Valley improves to 6-3. Today's game was the first meeting between the teams in history.

The Blugolds will be in action again Monday, taking on Connecticut College in Daytona Beach, Fla. at 10 a.m. Eastern.
