Medaille Women Upended by Pitt-Bradford in AMCC Road Matchup

BRADFORD, PA - The Medaille College women's basketball team saw their dominance of Pitt-Bradford end this evening as the Panthers outlasted Medaille (67-59), snapping the Lady Mavs (18) game win streak over Pitt-Bradford.  That streak dated back to an overtime loss in January of 2004.

Tonight's game was a seesaw battle that saw five ties and seven lead changes, however, the Lady Mavs never led by more than two points while the Panthers stretched their lead to as many as eleven points late in the game.  In their first matchup of the season, Medaille hung on for a one point win as Pitt-Bradford hit, what they thought was a game tying three pointer at the buzzer, but a foot on the three point arc gave Medaille that win.  They would not be as lucky tonight.

Senior Joelle Pollak made a bit of history in the loss as she connected on a pair of three pointers, giving her (182) for her career, which puts her in first place on Medaille's all-time list in that category, one more than Chery Hoch ('04) who knocked down (181) long range shots in her career.  Pollak completes that feat with more than one year to go in her Medaille career.  She finished the night with a team high (17) points to go along with (9) rebounds and a pair of assists.

Sophomore Morgan Howe registered a double/double in the loss, finishing with (13) points and (13) rebounds while also coming up with (2) blocks on the defensive end of the floor.  Fellow sophomore Alicia Montalvo chipped in with (11) points on (4 of 8) shooting, she also grabbed (6) rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.  Senior Brittney Rowland matched a game high with (4) assists and scored (10) points while teammate Brittnee Perry pulled down (9) rebounds for the Lady Mavs.

Medaille was able to outscore the panthers in the paint (30-20) and the Lady Mavs bench outscored their counterparts (13-3).  However, the starting five for Pitt-Bradford inflicted the damage that Medaille could not overcome. Neither team shot particularly well from the floor, but Medaille really struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just (16.0%) of their long distance shots.

The loss snaps a three game win streak by Medaille and drops them to (15-9) overall and (13-4) in AMCC play.  They will look to get back on track when they host Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday (2/16) for a 2:00pm showdown with the Bobcats on "Senior Day".
