St. Mary's Women's Basketball Stumbles at Marymount (VA)

Arlington, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team was held to their lowest point total of the season as Marymount (Va.) University swept the season series with a 59-33 Capital Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) paced the Seahawks (10-10, 4-6 CAC) in the loss with eight points, five rebounds, and two blocks while junior center Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) contributed seven points, six caroms and career-best three blocks.

Marymount (20-4, 10-1 CAC) owned a double-digit advantage early on in the contest, opening up the game with an 11-0 run. The Saints never relinquished their lead en route to a 33-13 halftime lead behind eight points and eight boards by senior forward Tynisha Parks (Lorton, Va.).

The Seahawks posted a solid start to the second half, closing the gap to 39-26 on a three-pointer by senior guard Pui Sham (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) at 13:19. Eleven of St. Mary's 20 second-half points resulted from 10 Saint turnovers. After a pair of free throws by first-year guard Kievanna Lacey (Morrisville, Pa.) at 8:38, Marymount returned to a 20-plus point lead for the remainder of the contest.

Parks paced the Saints with a double-double on game-bests of 14 rebounds and 13 points while Lacey and senior guard Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md.) each contributed a dozen points.

The Seahawks will look to turn back their two-game skid on Wednesday, February 13 when St. Mary's travels to the Eastern Shore to take on Salisbury University in another conference tilt at 5:30 pm. The Seahawks hope to even the season series with Salisbury as the Sea Gulls posted a come-from-behind 78-69 victory on January 19.
