Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team clinched the top-seed in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament with a 59-33 victory over visiting St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improve to 20-4 overall, 10-1 in league play, for their 17th 20-win season in program history.

Tynisha Parks led the Saints with her eighth double-double of the season. The senior forward scored a game-high 13 points to go with 14 rebounds.

Fellow senior Katelyn Fischer and freshman Kievanna Lacey added 12 points each. Fischer led all players with six assists while Lacey just missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds. Lacey also had a game-best three steals.

Marymount controlled the game from the start, jumping out to an 11-0 run and holding the Seahawks scoreless for more than six minutes after the opening tip. St. Mary's (10-10, 4-6 CAC) wouldn't reach double-figures until 2:17 remained in the first half as the Saints took a 33-13 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, St. Mary's slowly chipped away at the MU lead and eventually pulled within 13 points down 39-26 with 13:19 remaining. With the Saints defense holding SMC at bay, Lacey put the Blue and White back up by 20 at the 8:38 mark thanks to a steal and coast-to-coast layup that she was fouled on.

One of the top defensive teams in the nation, Marymount held St. Mary's without a field goal for the last 9:22 of the game. The Saints have now held six teams to under 40 points this season and are allowing a paltry 47.6 points per game, the 13th-best in NCAA Division III.

Taylor Petrisko led St. Mary's with eight points.

Marymount returns to the hardwood as it closes out the regular season on the road at Frostburg State on Wednesday. The Saints defeated the Bobcats 68-46 the last time the two teams met this season.
