PIONEERS PULL AWAY FROM NJCU, 67-51, WITH LATE RUN

WAYNE, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | William Paterson used a 20-4 run in the second half to pull away from New Jersey City University for a 67-51 New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball victory on February 2 at the WPU Rec Center.
 
With the win, William Paterson won its third straight and improved to 16-6 and 10-4 in conference play while NJCU (5-17, 1-12 NJAC) dropped its second in a row.
 
NJCU led by three with 12:27 left in the second half before the Pioneers, who scored eight more field goals than the Knights in the second half (15-7), used the late run to seize control of the contest.
 
The Knights shot 53.3 percent from three-point range, making 8-of-15 from that distance, to overcome 35.4 percent shooting for the game (17-48). The Pioneers converted 47 percent (28-of-60) from the field. WPU out-rebounded NJCU, 42-23, including 14-5 on the offensive glass. The 16-point final margin was the host's largest lead of the contest.
 
In defeat, sophomore guard JADE MEDLEY (Queens, NY/Hudson Catholic) scored a team-high 13 points (5-9 FG), including two three-pointers (2-of-3). Sophomore point guard ASHLEY VAZQUEZ (Jersey City, NJ/Marist) scored in double figures for the ninth straight game and for the 17th time this season, as she added 11 points and four assists, making 2-of-3 from three-point range.
