POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 22, 2013) – Junior guard Cydni Matsuoka scored a season-high 28 points on 11 of 12 shooting from the field to lead the Vassar College women's basketball team to a coast to coast 77-64 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State on Tuesday night at the Athletics & Fitness Center.

Matsuoka, who connected on 6 of 7 shots from behind the arc, scored 18 of her points in the first half. The Brewers broke out to a 16-2 lead in the first 6:17 of the game and were never challenged by the Rams. Matsuoka had a career-best shooting night and her backcourt mate, sophomore Nyah Berg, scored a career-high 18 points on 50 percent from the floor (7 of 14).

Vassar improves to 12-3 on the season and will play the remainder of its schedule against Liberty League opponents, starting this Friday night at Rochester Institute of Technology at 6:00 p.m. Farmingdale drops to 6-8 and plays at Old Westbury on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.

Behind the play of junior guard Nicky Young and senior guard Nikita Green, the Rams made one serious run against the Brewers. Two free throws by Young at the 4:51 mark brought Farmingdale within 26-18, but the Brewers went on a 17-5 run to build a 45-23 lead with 32 seconds until halftime and went into intermission leading 47-25. Matsuoka had seven of Vassar's points during that surge.

The second half was dominated by the Brewers, who held a 20 point margin for the first seven minutes of play and then subbed frequently, getting 22 points from its bench, 17 in the second half alone.

Farmingdale closed within 13 points, twice in the second half, both times coming with three minutes to play in the contest.
Guards dominated the offense for both teams, as Matsuoka and Berg combined for 46 of Vassar's 77 points. Green (19 points) and Young (17 points) led the Rams.
