William Paterson Women’s Basketball Hands Oswego State First Loss, 70-41

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) scored a career-best 22 points and the William Paterson women's basketball team (8-3) handed Oswego State (8-1) its first loss of the season with a 70-41 decision Dec. 30 in the opening round of the Catholic University Courtyard U.S. Capital Holiday Tournament.

 

The Pioneers dominated from the opening tip, building a 20-2 advantage less than nine minutes into the contest in the wire-to-wire win.  WP opened up a 38-17 lead by halftime before giving its reserves the majority of the second-half minutes, as William Paterson made half (14-28) of its field-goal attempts during the first 20 minutes while holding the Lakers to a 6-for-26 (.231) first-half effort.

 

Jeter was 9-for-11 (.818) for her 22 tallies, adding six rebounds.  Junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) notched 14 points and a game-high seven assists, and sophomore forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) posted a game-best eight boards.  Senior guard Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) had nine tallies, and freshman guard Jessi Corredor (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) collected a career-high eight points.

 

Kari Kipper and Lauren Nunziato led Oswego State with eight points apiece. 

 

William Paterson will take on host No. 15/21 Catholic in the tournament final Monday, Dec. 31, at 4:00 p.m.
