Lady Choctaws Run Away from Mary Hardin-Baylor, 70-39

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team forced 29 turnovers and had 18 steals in a 70-39 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Lady Choctaws (6-2, 3-1 ASC) scored 58 points in the paint and had 39 points off Lady Cru (1-5, 0-2 ASC) turnovers in the win.  MC's bench also outscored the UMHB bench, 28-9.

When senior Valeri Stewart made a layup with 14:30 remaining in the first half to give MC a 7-6 lead, it would be the final lead change of the game.  The Lady Choctaws would lead by double-digits for 27 of the 40 minutes in the game.

After Katelyn Smith of the Lady Cru hit a three-pointer to open the second half, MC went on a 19-4 run to put the game away.  UMHB never got closer than 20 points the rest of the way.

Senior Ebony Williams led the way with 18 points, going 8-14 from the field and pulling down five rebounds.  Senior Caitlin Brown was also in double-figures with 10 points.

The MC defense stepped up big, holding the Lady Cru to just 31% (17-55) shooting from the floor, including going 1-15 from the three-point line.  In the last two games, the Lady Choctaws have allowed their opponents to shoot just 1-29 (3%) from behind the arc.

Junior Jasmine James paced MC with six rebounds, also scoring eight points.

Macy Moore led the Lady Cru with 11 points, while Taylor Tucker had nine points and a game-high nine rebounds.  Tucker came into the game averaging 21.6 points per contest.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Monday, December 17th, when they travel to Abilene, Texas to face Hardin-Simmons.
