ARLINGTON, Va. -- Balance prevailed Tuesday for the Virginia Wesleyan College women's basketball team in an impressive 64-49 road win over Marymount University. Seven Marlins scored six or more points and 10 tallied overall, led by junior Symonne Newsome (Reistertown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls)with 12 points and rookie Kelly Jones (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) with 10.  Senior Rachael Miller (Sterling Park/Park View) opened scoring with a triple and Virginia Wesleyan never trailed in the first meeting between the schools in women's basketball since the 1993-94 season. Virginia Wesleyan (5-3), which won its fourth consecutive game, held Marymount (4-3) to just one point in the first six minutes of the game and opened up a 10-1 lead.  The Marlins maintained a lead the rest of the half, taking a 29-22 halftime lead after a score from rookie Kianna Klauck (Port Colborne, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic). Dominique Dickins (Virginia Beach/Tallwood) tallied for Marymount to pull the host team within six points early in the second half, but Virginia Wesleyan recovered quickly. The Marlins put together an 11-2 run to open up a 42-27 lead with 15:15 remaining.  Nancy Kelly (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Sarah Seipp (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) both scored four points in the run that included another timely triple from Miller. Marymount, which had a three-game winning streak snapped, never got closer than 12 points the remainder of the game. While Newsome hit 4-of-7 field goal attempts en route to her scoring totals for the Marlins, Jones was 3-of-7, all from three-point range.  VWC hit 8-of-33 triple attempts overall, while Marymount attempted just eight triples and hit three. Keivanna Lacey (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) led Marymount with 16 points, followed by Katelyn Fischer (Reistertown, Md./Seton Kough) wth 13. Miranda Krott (Temple, Pa./Oley Valley) pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to help Marymount to a 53-41 advantage on the boards. Andrea Paphites (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne) led VWC with seven rebounds. Virginia Wesleyan's pressuring defense helped force 32 Marymount turnovers.  The Marlins recorded 14 steals, led by rookie Cassie Conley (New Market/Stonewall Jackson) and Seipp with three each. Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Saturday, Dec. 8, hosting defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Guilford College at 4 p.m.  Guilford was tagged as the ODAC's title favorite in the preseason poll. --AMDG--
