Calvin bounced back in the win column with a 77-45 victory over the visiting Manchester Spartans Tuesday night inside Van Noord Arena.

A year ago Calvin edged Manchester 48-43 on the road but in Tuesday's victory Calvin limited the Spartans (0-3) to 25.5 percent field goal shooting as the Knights held a 38-17 lead at halftime and never looked back.

Senior Carissa Verkaik tallied her 39th career double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds to go with three blocked shots and two steals. Senior Ally Wolffis also provided a strong presence inside with 10 points. Senior Logan Marsh added 10 points, four assists and three steals off the bench while sophomore Hannah Acre chipped with a career-high eight points off the bench.

Manchester was led in scoring by Abby Lang with nine points.

Calvin held a commanding 49-28 rebounding advantage and shot 45.9 percent from the floor including 14-of-16 (.875) from the free throw line.

"It was a solid performance," said Calvin women's basketball coach John Ross. "I was happy with our defensive effort. We still have some things we need to improve upon but we'll continue to get better. We have two very challenging games this weekend so we'll need to raise our level of play."

Calvin will travel to Thomas More College this weekend to compete at the Julie Costello Memorial Classic. Calvin will face 14th-ranked Thomas More on Saturday at 7 p.m. and will then meet Centre College on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both Thomas More and Centre advanced to the NCAA III Tournament a year ago.
