Marymount Women’s Basketball Falls in Tip-Off Tournament Championship

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team fell 64-52 to Christopher Newport in the championship game of its annual Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday night.  Senior guard Katelyn Fischer was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Saints.

 

Fischer led the Saints (1-1) with 15 points to go with a game-high four steals.  Freshman Kievanna Lacey scored in double-figures for the second-straight time with 10.

 

Tynisha Parks hauled in eight rebounds for the saints while Samantha Kane and Miranda Krott both added seven.

 

A competitive first half saw five ties and three lead changes before an 8-0 run gave the Saints a 31-23 lead with 2:29 remaining.  Christopher Newport (2-0) would respond and close out the frame on a 7-0 run of its own to cut the MU lead to 31-30 going into the break.

 

Trading leads to start the second half, both squads kept it at least a two-possession game until the 8:19 mark when CNU took a 47-39 lead.  The Captains eventually push their lead to 11 with just over six minutes remaining and hold the Saints at bay the rest of the game.

 

Camry Green led the Captains with 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.  She was named the Tournament MVP.

 

Marymount returns to action on Tuesday as it takes on former Capital Athletic Conference foe Catholic in Washington, D.C.
