ARLINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore center Camry Green hauled in her second double-double in as many nights to lead Christopher Newport (2-0) to a 64-52 victory over the host Saints of Marymount University (1-1) in the Marymount Tip-Off Tournament. Green scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as CNU outscored the home team, 34-21 in the second half.

Green picked up tournament MVP honors and was joined on the All-Tournament team by junior Tia Perry. In the two-game set, Camry averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Perry chipped in five steals, four assists and averaged 8.5 points per game.

CNU opens the season with two wins on the opening weekend, and erased first-half deficits in both. In Saturday night's tournament championship game, the Captains trailed Marymount by just one at the break, 31-30.

The Saints shot a scorching 52% from the field in the first 20 minutes, knocking down 13-of-25 shots. Despite shooting just 38.5% from the field on 10-of-26, the Captains trailed just one courtesy of four three-pointers to Marymount's zero. Rookie Jordan Miller dropped a pair of trey's, while freshman Brandi Holland and junior Lauren Bochonok each added one.

Preseason All-American Katelyn Fischer gave Marymount their largest lead with 2:29 showing on the first-half clock, capping an 8-0 run to take a 31-23 lead. CNU answered with seven straight for the first half score of 31-30.

In the second half, the Captains jumped out to a two-possession lead behind Green, who scored six of the first nine CNU points in the stanza. A three-pointer by Miller with 7:45 remaining gave the Captains their first double-digit lead, an 11-point edge at 50-39.

The lead would build to 15, at 56-41, with less than five minutes to go and the Captains would be solid from the free-throw line down the stretch to hold off a late rally from Marymount.

Green scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half, on 5-of-6 shooting. CNU knocked down 48% of their shots to finish at 43.1% for the game (22-51). The Captains defense did a stellar job in the final 20 minutes, holding Marymount to just 5-of-21 shooting for a 23.8% shooting percentage. In the game, the CNU defense finished with four blocks and six steals.

Miller finished with 12 points to round out the double figure scoring for CNU, adding three rebounds and a steal. Junior Nicole Mitchell added seven boards and six points.

Fischer finished just 3-of-9 from the floor, but added a 9-of-10 performance from the charity stripe to lead the way for the Saints with 15 points. She added four steals, two assists and a pair of rebounds. Kievanna Lacey also had 10 points for Marymount.

CNU will stay on the road for one more game before their home opener on December 1 against LaGrange. The Captains next tip is set for 6:00 pm on November 26, at Roanoke College.
