Last Second Jumper Hands Guilford 63-62 Victory over Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Gabby Oglesby drilled a jumper from the low block with 0.6 seconds left in the first overtime set to give the Guilford Quakers (11-2, 8-0 ODAC) a hard-fought 63-62 victory over the Bridgewater Eagles in women's basketball action on Friday evening in Nininger Hall.

Bridgewater (6-5, 4-4 ODAC) guard Jenny Logan came up clutch for the second time in three games with a trey to force overtime, before the Quakers again took a late lead on a pair of free throws with under 30 seconds to play in the first overtime session.

Eagles forward Katelynn Hottinger knocked in a layup to put Bridgewater up 62-61 with 11 seconds left in the game.

Out of the timeout, called by the Quakers sideline, Guilford had a look at the hoop and Oglesby made it count from short range to hand the Eagles a tough 63-62 loss.

The Eagles started off hot, running out to a 15-4 lead on the Quakers after seven-plus minutes of action.

Guilford used a quick 5-0 spurt to chip the Bridgewater lead down to a 15-9 advantage, before the Eagles answered with four points from Jessica Mullen to push the lead back to double figures with 7:57 left in the opening frame.

Bridgewater pushed its lead to a game-high 13 at a 30-17 gap with under three minutes left in the first half before the Quakers used an 8-2 run over the waning minutes to cut the Eagles advantage to 32-25 at the break.

Guilford slowly worked the Eagles lead down to one possession early in the second stanza before knotting the game up at 42 each with 6:57 to go.

The Eagles were able to push their lead back to as high as four before a pair of Morgan King free throws capped off a 6-1 Quakers run to give Guilford its first lead of the ball game at a 48-47 margin with 3:04 left.

With 22 seconds left in regulation, the Quakers owned a two-point lead with Oglesby heading to the charity stripe for a pair of free throws. Oglesby's first shot rimmed out, before she buried her second shot forcing a Quakers timeout.

Ten seconds later, Logan pulled up off of a screen on the near-side wing and drilled a shot from long range to knot the game up at 54 each.

King had a look at the hoop in the waning moments of regulation, but the shot missed, pushing the game to an extra session.

Both teams traded leads in the extra set with the game being knotted up for the eighth time on the evening at a 60-60 margin with 42 ticks to play.

King drilled the back end of a pair of free throws to push Guilford ahead by a point before Hottinger went to the other end and knocked in a layup to put Bridgewater back up by a point before Oglesby's game-winner decided the outcome.

Bridgewater was led offensively by a 15-point effort from Mullen. Logan chipped in 13 in the loss, while Hottinger knocked in eight.

On the glass, Bridgewater controlled things, out-rebounding the Quakers by a 55-to-40 gap, behind Logan's team-high eightboards.

Guilford was led offensively by Jazlyn Gibbs' 15-point outing. Oglesby chipped in 14, including the game-winner and pulled down a game-high 13 boards to notch the double-double.

Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when Emory & Henry comes to Nininger Hall.
