Buffalo State Women’s Basketball Sinks Oswego, 67-40

BUFFALO, NY--Buffalo State (7-1/3-1) limited visiting Oswego (6-3/3-2) to just five points in the first 14 minutes of the game and cruised to a 67-40 victory in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) led the Bengals with 14 points, eight assists and six steals.  Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) added 13 points and six rebounds, and Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) had 11 points and eight boards.

Lauren Nunziato (W. Sand Lake/Averill Park) and Kari Kipper (Loudonville/Colonie) scored 10 points each to lead the Lakers.

Buffalo State took command from the opening tip, cruising out to a 25-5 advantage.  Oswego missed its first 17 shots from the floor, and finally connected on its first field goal with just 2:59 remaining in the opening period.  The Bengals led 41-18 at the intermission, and never allowed the Lakers to threaten in the second half. 

Buffalo State shot 43-percent from the field for the game, including 56-percent (5 of 9) from 3- point range.  Oswego finished connecting on just 22-percent of its field goal attempts.  The Lakers scored 16 of their 40 points from the free-throw line.

Buffalo State will next travel to the Daytona Beach Shootout and take on Drew on Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.
