Spartan Women Downed at Nationally-Ranked Chicago, 81-61

CHICAGO, IL –Four players scored in double-figures, but the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team dropped its second straight University Athletic Association road contest in an 81-61 loss against #13/14 University of Chicago on Friday, January 28 at the Ratner Center.

Junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) led the Spartans with 17 points and added six rebounds as the team fell to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in the UAA. Sophomore guards Evy Iacono (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) and Erica Iafelice (North Canton, OH/Canton Hoover) added 12 and 11 points, respectively, while senior forward Caitlin Henry (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) contributed 10.

Taylor Simpson had game-highs of 23 points and 19 rebounds for the Maroons, who improved to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the UAA.

Chicago led the entire way, as the Spartans did not get on the board until the 17:34 mark on an Iacono jumper that brought the score to 7-2. The Maroons did not let Case get any closer than seven during the first stanza, taking a 24-point lead, 44-20, into the locker room.

The Maroons pushed their advantage to a game-high 27 points, at 47-20, in the early stages of the second half. Case managed to cut the lead to 15 on a layup by sophomore center Emily Mueller (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) with 7:43 to go, but the Spartans would get no closer the rest of the way.     

The Spartans will be back in action, taking on another Top 25 UAA foe in #8/9 Washington University (MO) on Sunday, January 30. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT.
