Marietta women begin second half with loss at Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA, Ohio — Marietta College women's basketball opened its second half of Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 72-33 road loss at first place Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday (Jan. 22) afternoon. [Box Score]

The Yellow Jackets (13-3, 8-1 OAC) held the Pioneers (7-10, 3-7 OAC) to their lowest scoring output in almost two seasons. Marietta shot just 22.9% (11-of-48) overall while turning the ball over 25 times. Baldwin-Wallace, meanwhile, connected on 43.4% (23-of-53) from the floor and held a 39-34 edge in rebounding.

Sophomore Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) and freshman Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) both scored a team-best nine points. No other Pioneer scored more than one basket on the day. Senior Mallory Hoff (Newport/Frontier) paced the squad with seven rebounds, while Guiler added six boards.

Jessica Carpenter led Baldwin-Wallace with 12 points. Jessica Lairson added nine points, while Amanda Schroeder and Megan Frisina both collected eight in the win.

Turnovers plagued the Pioneers, especially in the first half as 17 giveaways led to 16 Yellow Jacket points over the first 20 minutes. As a result, Baldwin-Wallace took a 30-19 lead into intermission.

The Yellow Jackets continued to add to their advantage throughout the second half and cruised to the 39-point victory.

Marietta is back in action Wednesday (Jan. 26) evening when it visits rival Muskingum University for a tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
