Mississippi improves to 11-0 after strong second half against Hendrix

CLINTON, Miss. (Dec. 30) -- Mississippi College had four players in double figures and held Hendrix College to just 26.2 percent from the field to earn its 11th consecutive victory, 70-43, on Thursday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Hendrix trailed by just eight points at the break, 31-23, but Mississippi broke away in the second half by outscoring the Warriors 27-9 during the first 10 minutes after intermission. The Lady Choctaws eventually led by a game-high 29 points (64-35) with 6:15 remaining.

Sophomore Valeri Stewart led the Lady Choctaws with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. First year Madeleine Roberts was close behind with 13 points, while senior Jalessa Taylor added 11 points and senior Jennifer Wair mixed in 10 points. Mississippi scored 32 points in the paint, 24 points off turnovers, 41 points off the bench.

Junior Samantha Devlin was the only Warrior in double figures with a season-high 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. Junior Anna Roane added nine points and nine rebounds and junior Katy Ashley-Pauley scored eight. Hendrix shot just 11-of-42 from the field as a team.

Mississippi improves to 11-0 on the season and Hendrix falls to 5-5 overall. The Warriors will be back in action on Jan. 2 at 1 p.m. when they travel to University of Dallas.
