Olivet women’s basketball team comes up short against Chicago, 80-55

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet College women's basketball team came up short against University of Chicago, 80-55, in a non-conference game today inside the Ratner Center in Chicago.

The Comets led just for a few seconds in the first half at 3-2. The Maroons built their lead to as many as 10 points in the first 20 minutes before Olivet made a three-pointer to make the score at 37-30 at the break. In the second half, Chicago stretched its lead to 31 points, 80-49, with 3:26 left.

The Comets were led by senior Stephanie Spehar (South Lyon) who scored nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from behind the arc. Junior Debbie Nikodemski (Rockford) had eight points and eight rebounds.

For the Maroons, Bryanne Halfhill led all scorers with 19 points. Taylor Simpson and Meghan Herrick finished with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Morgan Herrick grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Olivet is now idle until Thursday, Dec. 30, when it travels to play Manchester (Ind.) College at 4 p.m.
