Salisbury collects DoubleTree Championship with 78-63 win over W&J

READING, Pa. – Four players reached double figures and strong shooting allowed the Salisbury University men's basketball team to defeat the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, 78-63, and win the Albright Doubletree Holiday Tournament Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury opened the game with a 9-3 run that was capped off by a Kaiden Mines three-pointer at the 17:12 mark of the first half.
  • W&J battled back and tied the game up at 21 with just over 10 minutes left in the half.
  • A Jordan Oates layup sparked an 11-2 run for the Sea Gulls over the next several minutes to go up 35-25 with 3:38 on the clock.
  • Both teams added a few more baskets to send the teams into halftime with a score of 40-31.
  • The back-and-forth continued to begin the second half. Buddah Spencer knocked down a three with just under 13 minutes left to give the Sea Gulls a 15-point lead, 54-39.
  • Mines drew a foul on a three-point attempt and knocked down all three free throws to spark a 13-6 run that gave Salisbury it's largest lead of the day, 71-50, with 4:35 left to play.
  • The Presidents cut down the lead to 74-61 late in the game but the Sea Gulls closed out the game with a short run to earn the championship.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury shot a season-best 57.9 percent (33-for-57) from the field, including a season-high 40 percent (8-for-20) from beyond the arc.
  • Four players reached double-digit points in the victory.
  • Buddah Spencer led the Sea Gulls with a career-high 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting. He also added four assists and a pair of rebounds to his line.
  • Jordan Oates recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Kaiden Mines and Greg Bloodsworth each scored 14 points.

WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON GAME NOTES

  • Washington & Jefferson shot 38.2 percent (26-for-68) from the field.
  • Kyran Mitchell recorded a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Nick Gearhart chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.
