HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Junior Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) and sophomore Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) each scored 11 points, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped an 83-63 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball decision at home to nationally-ranked No. 1 Randolph-Macon College on Thursday night at S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium. Sophomore Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) added 10 points for the host Tigers, who led 36-31 at halftime while falling to 10-6 overall, 5-4 in the ODAC. DaQuan Morris scored a game-high 21 points off the bench for the visiting Yellow Jackets, who outscored H-SC 52-27 in the second half for their 10th-straight win while improving to 16-1 overall, 8-0 in the ODAC.

"First off, thank you to all of the students who came out tonight," said third-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough. "What an unbelievable environment! We have to clean up our turnovers, it's as simple as that. Our staff will keep working to help the guys and we will get it right."

H-SC scored the first four points of the game with baskets from sophomore Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA) and Hardy, and a three-point field goal by sophomore Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) had the Tigers ahead 7-5 at 17:52. Another three-pointer, this time from sophomore DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA), gave the hosts a 12-7 advantage at 13:43 much to the delight of a raucous student crowd in attendance. R-MC, ranked No. 1 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, battled back to take a 13-12 lead with 12:58 on the clock following a three-pointer by Morris. The Garnet & Grey, however, answered right back with a three-pointer from junior Miles Harris (Virginia Beach) that started a 14-4 run leading to a 26-17 advantage at 7:10—Hardy and Hubbard each scoring four points inside along with another three-pointer by Wright. A layup from Hardy maintained the margin at 32-23 with 3:18 left in the half, but the Yellow Jackets closed with an 8-4 run to get within 36-31 at the intermission.

H-SC led 40-33 early in the second half after a pair of free throws by Clements, and the Tigers were ahead 50-43 at 15:11 following a jumper by fifth-year Jake Hahn (Ruckersville). R-MC, however, used a quick 17-4 run to take a 60-54 lead with 9:30 remaining—getting a pair of three-pointers each from Morris and Will Coble. Two more free throws by Clements made it a 60-56 contest at 7:52, and the Garnet & Grey were within six points at 67-61 with 4:02 left to play, but the Yellow Jackets scored 16 unanswered points down the stretch to lead 83-61 with just 22-seconds on the clock toward the final margin … Buzz Anthony scoring seven points, Miles Mallory adding six and Morris making his seventh three-pointer during the outburst.

Clements and Hardy led H-SC with their respective 11 points, with Clements adding five assists and four rebounds. Hubbard added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers. Hahn and Harris each finished with eight points off the bench, with Hahn adding a game-high nine rebounds. H-SC shot 40% (23-58) from the field, including 26% (6-23) on three-pointers, and 61% (11-18) at the free throw line.

Morris led R-MC with his game-high 21 points off the bench, including 7-9 three-pointers. Mallory added 20 points, a game-high nine rebounds, three assists and a game-high three blocks for the Yellow Jackets. Anthony finished with 15 points and a game-high nine assists. R-MC shot 50% (31-62) from the field, including 40% (14-35) on three-pointers, and 88% (7-8) at the line.

H-SC will play at home again on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. against ODAC member Shenandoah University in Fleet Gym.
