How it Happened

• Trailing 43-35 with 18:34 to play, graduate student Conner Delaney drained back-to-back three-pointers to spark a 20-2 run that spanned seven minutes. Delaney fueled the run with 16 of the Blue Jays' 20 points and scored his 1000th career point at the 15:09-mark on a fast-break layup.

• The Sea Gulls answered with a 5-2 spurt to pull within seven at the 9:04-mark. Junior Carson James answered with consecutive buckets to ignite a 15-0 run as the Blue Jays pushed out to a 72-50 lead with 3:20 to go. Gary Briddell converted a pair of free throws in the final minute to account for final points.

• It was a different story in the first half as the lead changed hands five times in the opening six and a half minutes. Hopkins led 13-12 after a Tom Quarry conventional three-point play at the 13:47-mark. Brandon Craig answered with six straight points, sandwiched around a pair of Delaney free throws, and the Sea Gulls led 18-15 with 12:32 to play in the half. James then tied the game with a bucket from downtown.

• Sean Carr responded with a jumper in the paint to ignite a 9-2 run as Salisbury went up 27-20 at 7:56. Back-to-back layups by Delaney and senior Chid Nnake and the Sea Gulls' lead was down to three. Salisbury rattled off seven unanswered points to push its lead to double digits at the 2:17-mark. Hopkins answered with a 7-2 run of its own to make it a 36-31 game with just 12 ticks on the clock. Cameron Heard would hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to send the Sea Gulls into the half with a 38-31 lead.
