FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team (0-7, 0-3) battled on Tuesday night with the University of Southern Maine (5-4, 0-1) in non-conference action with the Huskies coming away with a 85-69 win.
The Beavers had four players tally double figures with Anfernee Dent (Jackson, Miss./Daegu) leading the way with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting and sank three shots from long range. Eric Berry (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) had a solid night with 13 points and four rebounds. Nick Hilton (Wilton, Maine/Mt. Blue) added 12 points and six rebounds. Alan Young (Poland, Maine/Poland) was a force down low for Farmington with a near double-double. Young scored 10 points and added seven rebounds in only his second career start.
Zach Leal, who notched a game-high 20 points, led the Huskies with 15 points coming in the second half. Atencio Martin also was unstoppable in the second half by scoring all 19 of his points in the final period.
The battle was tight for the entire first half as the Beavers only trailed by two at the break. Coming out of the locker room, the Huskies erupted with a 14-2 in the first five minutes to build a respectable lead. In the final minutes, UMF used the deep threat to attempt a comeback by sinking four of their final four attempts.
UMaine-Farmington returns to action on Friday at Bowdoin in the final game of the calendar year.
