FARMINGTON, Maine – Junior Zach Leal (York, Maine) scored a game-high 20 points to lead three players in double figures as the University of Southern Maine Huskies rolled over the UMaine Farmington Beavers 85-69 in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Dearborn Gymnasium.

With the win, Southern Maine snaps a three-game losing streak to improve to 5-4 overall.  UMaine Farmington remains winless on the season and is now 0-7 with the loss.

Leal was 8-for-18 from the field as the Huskies shot a solid 47.1 percent (32-for-68) from the floor as a team.  Junior Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) added 19 points, six rebounds and two assists on 8-for-11 shooting, while senior Jose Nouchanthavong (Westbrook, Maine) added 17 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals in a stellar peformannce for USM.

UMF had four players in double-figures but could not match the Huskies' offensive firepower.  Freshman Anfernee Dent (Jackson, Miss./Daegu) led the Beavers with 14 points off of the bench, while starters sophomore Eric Berry (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue), senior Nick Hilton (Wilton, Maine/Mt. Blue) and freshman Alan Young (Poland, Maine) scored 13, 12 and 10 points each.

Never trailing in the game, Southern Maine found itself in a dog-fight in the opening half.  Ahead by six, 30-24, on a jumper from junior Omar Haji-Hersi (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) with 3:59 to play in the opening half, the Huskies found themselves in a two-point game at the break as the Beavers scored the final four points to trail 30-28.  After Haji-Hersi's basket, USM misfired on its next five shots.  UMF pulled to within a possession of USM as Berry made a jumper as time expired.

USM pulled away immediately in the second half scoring the first nine points to open up a 39-28 lead with 16:23 to play.  Leal scored five of the Huskies' points in the pivotal run, including a traditional three-point play on the hoop and the harm following a steal.

Southern Maine continued its hot-shooting and outscored the Beavers 25-16 over the next six and a half minutes to grab a 20-point, 64-44, lead on Leal's layup with 8:45 remaining in the game. From there, the Beavers never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way as USM cruised to the win.

Southern Maine remains on the road and will travel to Western Connecticut on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) for a Little East Conference game.  UMF will travel to Bowdoin College on Friday (7:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game.
