DECATUR, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won its 2015-16 men's basketball season opener with an 85-78 road victory at Millikin University on Saturday night.

Rose-Hulman's 85 points tie the most points scored in the Rusty Loyd era.  The Fightin' Engineers originally set the mark with an 85-52 win over Earlham last February.

Sophomore Stephen Schueth led a balanced scoring attack with a career-high 20 points.  Schueth finished a perfect 14-14 on the free throw line, tying the second most free throws made in a game in Rose-Hulman history.  He also hit both three-point attempts.

Junior Collin Wojcik added 18 points, and freshman Luke Callahan came off the bench for 16 points in his college debut.  Wojcik was 6-13 from the field and hit three shots beyond the arc.  Callahan snagged eight rebounds and was 6-10 from the field with three blocks.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included senior Matt Loesing with nine points; senior Jimmy Miller with eight points and eight rebounds; and junior Wade Stallings with seven points.

TJ Griffin led the Millikin offense with 24 points, and TJ Sims added 18 points for the Big Blue.  Rose-Hulman held Millikin to just 34% from the field, outrebounded the Big Blue by nine and hit 36-47 free throws in the victory.  The 36 made free throws ties a Rose-Hulman single-game school record, previously set against Illinois College in 1982.

Rose-Hulman closed the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 35-28 lead at the half.  Millikin led 44-42, but Rose-Hulman answered with a 13-6 spurt midway through the second half to claim a 55-50 edge.  Millikin battled to within 67-64, before the Fightin' Engineers relied on key shooting down the stretch to claim the win.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season and returns to action at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational next weekend.  The Fightin' Engineers face Fontbonne University on Saturday night, then face an opponent to be determined on Nov. 22.  Millikin has an 0-1 mark on the season.
