Big Blue Basketball Opens Season with Loss

          The Millikin men's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season losing to Rose-Hulman 85-78 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois on November 14.

          The game was a back-and-forth contest most of the way with Rose-Hulman holding a 35-28 advantage at the half.  Millikin cut into the deficit in the second half keeping the game tight until the final minutes.  The game was tied on 14 different occasions.

          Rose-Hulman shot 47 percent from the field including 50 percent from the three-point line.  Rose-Hulman hit on 6-9 threes in the second half.  Millikin hit only 34 percent of its shots.  The Engineers won the rebounding battle 40-31. 

          Both teams struggled to adjust to the new rule changes with 65 fouls called in the game.  There were 83 free throws shot in the contest.  Rose Hulman hit on 36-47 while Millikin connected on 30-36 from the line.

          Millikin's top scorer was TJ Griffin with 24 points followed by TJ Sims with 18.  Tommy Pilackas and Tyler Pygon each scored nine.  Elijah Kinmon led Millikin with seven rebounds.  Pilackas and Zach Long each had six.

          Rose-Hulman had three players score in double figures led by Stephen Schueth with 20, Collin Wojcik with 18 and Luke Callahan with 16.  Callahan and Jimmy Miller each had eight rebounds to lead the Engineers.

          Millikin will be back in action on Wednesday, November 18 when they host Aurora University at 7 p.m.
