BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team fell to Baruch College, 81-62, in CUNY Athletic Conference action, at the APEX Main Gym, on Wednesday evening. The Lightning fall to 4-3 in conference games, while the Bearcats remain unbeaten in CUNYAC competition.
Baruch (11-3, 7-0 CUNYAC) shot 60 percent from the field, and 55 percent from three-point range.
For the Lightning (9-7, 4-3 CUNYAC), junior forward Chaun Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Eleanor Roosevelt) led the way with 17 points, while classmate Olando Minott (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) scored 13 and dished out three assists.
Late in the first half, with Lehman trailing 28-19, senior guard Scott Arias (New York, N.Y./Rice) successfully laid the ball up and in, while being fouled. He hit a free throw to complete the three-point play to pull the Lightning within six, with 6:29 left to play in the opening half.
After the Bearcats went back up by nine, Arias drilled a three-point shot to decrease Baruch's lead to 31-25, with 5:14 left in the first stanza. Less than a minute later, freshman guard Andrew Utate (Washington Heights, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) tallied a jump shot to cut Lehman's deficit to 33-27.
That's as close as the Lightning would get as Baruch pulled away to take a 48-37 lead going into the half. In the second stanza, Lehman never pulled to within single-digits as the Bearcats were able to increase their lead throughout the remainder of the game, and ended up winning, 81-62.
Freshman guard John Brens (Washington Heights, N.Y./All Hallows) scored nine points, while Arias added eight.
The Lightning will hit the road, on Friday, to battle Hunter in another CUNYAC game, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
