CINCINNATI, Ohio – Albion went on a 7-2 run over the first 4:20 of the second half to build a double-digit lead and the Britons went on to score its first victory of the young season with a 72-63 decision over Berry.
Albion's lead ranged from 1-7 points in the first half and it held a 31-26 advantage at halftime. Carter Elliott scored three points and Jordon Herron and Zach Hurth added baskets during the Britons early second half spurt.
Albion led by at least six the rest of the way. The Britons opened up their largest lead of the contest when De'Tavia Moore knocked down a 3-point basket to make the score 58-45 with nine minutes remaining.
Travell Oakes, who gained a place on the Mount Saint Joseph Tip-Off All-Classic Team, produced 11 points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench. The junior from Muskegon averaged 10 ½ points and 7 ½ rebounds as Albion went 1-1 in the season-opening contests.
Dakota Kazen and Elliott led the starting unit with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Albion has the week to prepare for its Saturday home debut against Earlham (Ind.). Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside Kresge Gymnasium.
