Woods Drops 40 as York Tops Brooklyn College, 107-93

More news about: York (N.Y.)

The 40 points by Woods was the second most in school history and was just three shy of the record set by Elliot Bruce in a game all the way back in 1987.  Woods might have broken the record had he not received his second technical foul of the game with just over five minutes remaining.

The Cardinals got off to a fast start and never trailed thanks to the hot shooting of Donald Rodriguez at the onset.  Rodriguez connected on a trio of three pointers to give the Cardinals an early, 11-5 lead.  The sharp shooting was contagious for York in the early parts of the game and the Cardinals jumped out to a 28-14 advantage following a Jaron Williams dunk with 12:20 to play in the half

Brooklyn made some adjustments though and went on a 13-0 run immediately following the score and closed to within just one point.  But Woods scored the next seven points and the Cardinals got the lead back up to eight points.

From that point on the Cardinals were never really threatened the rest of the way.  York extended its lead back to 15 points before halftime (55-40).  Brooklyn got as close as nine points in the second half, but York would pull away and lead by as many as 23 points.

Also contributing for York was Omar St. John who finished with 18 points, six assists and five rebounds.  Rodriguez had 15 points and five boards and Du'Quan Lawson dished out ten assists and scored nine points.

Brooklyn was led by Jai Kellman, who had 24 points, while Egzon Gjonbalic added 20 points.

Brooklyn falls to 2-5, 0-2 CUNYAC, while York improves to 4-5, 1-1 CUNYAC.  The Cardinals will host Baruch College on Friday at 8 p.m.
