St. Thomas topples Macalester

Defending conference champ and No. 15-ranked St. Thomas opened up a 31-22 halftime lead and went on to topple Macalester 78-55 Monday night at the Leonard Center.  Although the Scots shot 56% and went 9-for-18 on three-pointers, they could not overcome a 23-10 UST turnover advantage and 9-2 UST advantage in offensive rebounds.

 

Dylan Kilgour (So., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) went 4-for-6 from three-point territory and paced Macalester with 19 points.  Sager Moritzky added eight points, Kareem Ismail (Fy., Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Prep) scored seven, and Hans Erickson (Jr., La Crosse, Wis. / Logan) handed out six assists.  The Scots drop to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC.

 

The Tommies, now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC, received 18 points and eight rebounds from Conner Nord.  Marcus Alipate and Zach Riedeman each added nine points and Erik Tengwall dished out seven assists.

 

St. Thomas led 30-4 in points off turnovers and 30-14 in points in the paint.

 

The Scots are off until hosting North Central (Minn.) Dec. 17.
