GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Gordon Lyons scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Knights to an 89-82 season-opening victory over Morrisville, Wednesday night, at Schrader Gymnasium.

Lyons finished the evening 9-of-14 shooting to lead five Geneseo players in double-digit scoring. As a team, Geneseo only turned the ball over five times

"That was certainly a team win with almost six guys in double figures," said head coachSteve Minton. "I was especially proud of the way we took care of the ball so well. When you only turn the ball over five times, it is hard not to come out on top."

Geneseo would start the game on a 7-2 run in the first 2:26 of the game, but Morrisville (1-2) would bounce back with 22-14 spurt of its own to take a 24-21 lead with 11:25 on the clock. The Knights would forge back ahead by eight points, 34-26, following a 13-2 run capped by a three-pointer and a layup by junior forward James McKenna as Geneseo took a 42-39 lead into halftime.

The Knights' lead would balloon to 16 following a 20-7 run over the first 4:45 of second half. A pair of McKenna free throws made it a 62-46 Knights' edge that proved to be too much for the Mustangs to recover from.

Junior guard Andy Drescher totaled 15 points, while McKenna was credited 14 points, including a 7-for-7 performance from the free throw line, as well as three blocked shots. Senior forwards Jordan Jones and Matt Curry each scored 12 points, while Jones also tied a team high with nine rebounds. Senior point guard Thomas Decker dished out six assists while not registering any turnovers.

Morrisville guard Jordan Pryor led all scorers with 23 points, while Brandon Hanks added 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with eight boards in the loss.

The Knights will return to action on Monday (Nov. 25) with a trip to Medaille for a 7:00 p.m. start.
