Morrisville State men drop 89-82 decision on road to Knights

GENESEO, N.Y. – Senior Jordan Prior (Cortland, N.Y.) registered 23 points, and two additional teammates reached double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Morrisville State College men's basketball team dropped an 89-82 road decision to host SUNY Geneseo Wednesday night in Geneseo.

The loss is the second straight for the Mustangs, who drop to 1-2 overall on the season. Geneseo opens the season with a 1-0 record.

Prior posted 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the floor, draining four from long range, while adding six rebounds to his tallies on the night. Senior guard Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 17 points in the Morrisville State efforts, grabbing eight off the glass while dishing out five assists.

Senior forward Tom Wilk (Cortland, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang leaders with 11 points, snagging a team high nine rebounds and two blocked shots.

Gordon Lyons led Geneseo with 22 points, nine rebounds and three assists as four additional teammates notched double digits in the non-conference win.

Morrisville State trailed by just three at the half, before Geneseo opened with an 11-4 run to start the second half, increasing the lead to 10 less than three minutes in.

Geneseo increased the lead to as many as 16 at the 12 minute mark, but the Mustangs chipped away, cutting it to a six point game with a 16-6 run over a five minute span.

Morrisville State got to within four, but Geneseo secured the win converting 4-of-7 free throws down the stretch.

The Mustangs shot 44 percent from the floor on the night (30-for-68), but were outdone in the second half, as the Knights hit 53.6 percent to Morrisville State's 38.2 percent effort from the floor.

Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, hosting SUNY Maritime for the home opener at 2 p.m.
