The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Beavers of The City College of New York, 85-58, in a quarterfinal game of the 2013 CUNYAC / Con Edison Basketball Championship Tournament.

The Bearcats used strong defense to limit the Beavers to 15 first half points on 22.2 percent (6-for-27) shooting for a 30-15 halftime score.

During the second half, the Bearcats shot 55.6 percent (15-for-27) en route to the home playoff victory.

The Bearcats advance to the semifinal round on Thursday, February 21, at 8:00 pm to play against the #3 seeded Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. 


Rob Goldsteinwas named the CUNYAC / Con Edison Player of the Game with 19 points (5-9 fg), six rebounds, three assists and two steals. He scored 17 of his 19 points during the second half.

"I was really happy with our effort today as the team played real hard," said Head Coach John Alesi. "We have a blueprint on how to win and today they followed the plan. We also had good energy and began the tournament with a solid performance."


Joshua Vitalrecorded a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds and one block. Matas Rasciuscame off the bench to score 11 points and grab eight rebounds.

Overall, every single player for Baruch scored to help the team raise their season record to 17-9.

Israel Vickers led the visiting Beavers with 16 points (5-6 fg). The Beavers finish the season with a 10-16 record.
