Oswego State Stymied at Cortland, 78-46

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cold shooting from the Oswego State men's basketball team (16-6, 9-6 SUNYAC) combined with a solid Cortland (19-3, 13-2) offensive performance resulted in a 78-46 Laker loss Friday night. The Lakers shot 34.5 percent from the field (20-for-58), while the Red Dragons shot a red-hot 51.8 percent, including 62.1 percent in the second half.
 
The Red Dragons had four players reach double figures compared to just one for the Lakers. Mark Candelario (Greenfield Park, N.Y.) came off the bench to pace Oswego State with 10 points in siminutes. Jesse Winter led Cortland with 16 points followed by Brian Manning's 15 points and 11 points each from Harrison Hefele and Lamard Herron.
 
With the score tied at 10 midway through the first half, the Red Dragons rattled off a 17-4 run that put Cortland out in front, 27-14. Hefele drilled a three-pointer late the stanza to send the home team into the locker room leading 30-18.
 
The Lakers went cold at the start of the second half as they managed two points on a Kyle Covley (Fr,. Penfield, N.Y.) in the first six minutes, while the Red Dragons extended their lead to 41-22 in the process. Cortland never looked back, as it cruised to the victory.
 
Oswego State hosts its final game of the regular season on Tuesday when it plays Oneonta at 8 p.m. The contest is also Senior Night for the Lakers.
