Brooklyn's Comeback Attempt Falls Short at Baruch

New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team was unable to complete its come-from-behind victory on Tuesday night, as the Bulldogs dropped a 74-63 decision at ARC Arena against Baruch College in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action. With the loss, Brooklyn falls to 3-7 overall on the season and 2-3 in the CUNYAC, while Baruch improves to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Trailing by 15, 52-37, with 11:13 remaining in the game, the Bulldogs staged a furious comeback attempt, as Brooklyn used a 20-3 run to erase its deficit and take a 57-55 lead with 6:30 left. Senior Jeffrey Noel sparked the run scoring nine points, while freshman Egzon Gjonbalaj added six points.

Following a pair of free throws from senior Kavon Baker, which broke a 59 all tie and put the Bulldogs ahead once again, 61-59, with 4:53 remaining, the Brooklyn offense would go cold, as the Bearcats finished the game on a 15-2 run en route to its 74-63 victory.

Baruch controlled much of the first half, which saw the Bearcats open the game on a 10-3 run. After a three-pointer from sophomore Steven Diaz put Brooklyn up 16-15 with 8:34 left before the halftime break, Baruch used a 19-7 run to close out the period and take a 34-23 advantage into the intermission break.

For the game, Brooklyn shot 40.7% (24-59) from the field and 46.2% (6-13) from three. The Bulldogs struggled from the line, going 9-for-17 (52.9%).

Baruch shot 42.9% (27-63) from the field and just 26.7% (4-15) from beyond the arc. The Bearcats also shot 64.0% (16-25) from the charity stripe. Baruch also out-rebounded Brooklyn 44-35.

Noel led all scorers with 19 points and five rebounds coming off the bench for Brooklyn, while Baker and senior Steven Grant both finished with 11 points. Baker also dished out eight assists, while Grant grabbed seven rebounds. Gjonbalaj chipped in with nine points and six rebounds, while Diaz contributed with eight points, six rebounds and five assists.

Edward Roscigno and Joshua Vital scored 16 points each for Baruch, while Matas Rascius added 11 points and seven rebounds. Granville Gittens finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

Brooklyn returns to action this Saturday, January 12th, as the Bulldogs will welcome the Bloodhounds of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice for another CUNYAC matchup.
