Baruch Fends Off Late Brooklyn Rally to Record 74-63 Victory

The Baruch College Bearcats received 16 points each from Joshua Vitaland Edward Roscignoto defeat the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College, 74-63, in a CUNYAC home contest played on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.

The visiting Bulldogs (3-7, 2-3 CUNYAC) led 16-15 with 8:34 left in the first half, but the Bearcats (8-5, 4-2 CUNYAC) battled by scoring 16 of the next 23 points to enter the halftime leading, 34-23.

The lead would grow to as much as 15 points (52-37) with 11:13 remaining, but the Bulldogs rallied with 12 straight points to turn what seemed like a rout back to a close game of 52-49.

The Bulldogs would later tie the game at 59 and take a brief two point lead on a pair of free throws by Kavon Baker with 4:53 remaining.

The Bearcats never lost their composure and took back the lead at 63-61 on a three-pointer by Roscigno.
Matt Feldmanthen scored a layup off a Fuat Yapar steal to increase the lead to four points (65-61).

Vital provided the late heroics with a pair of crowd-pleasing dunks during the final two minutes to complete a 15-3 run over the final four minutes to seal the victory in convincing fashion.

In addition to his 16 points, Vital grabbed six rebounds. Roscigno contributed to his 16 point effort with two steals.

Yapar, the team captain, had a busy all-around game with six rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Matas Rasciusscored 11 points (5-8 fg) and grabbed seven rebounds. Brian McMahonand Granville Gittens(nine rebounds) finished with nine points each.

Raymond De La Cruz, who was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, finished with five rebounds.

Jeffrey Noel led the visitors with 19 points and five rebounds.

Baruch will return to action on Monday, January 14, with a non-conference contest at Rutgers-Camden. Tip off in Camden, New Jersey, just outside Philadelphia, is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
