Lightning Drops Key CUNYAC Game to Bearcats, 68-50

More news about: Lehman

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Chris Beauchamp and Rob Goldstein combined for 23 second half points and the Baruch Bearcats pulled away after a first half tied at 26 to win 68-50 over the host Lightning on Friday night at John Jay College.

Lehman placed three players in double figures, led by Mathias Raggiotto's 15 points (6-11 FG).  George Nimmons added 11 and Sebastian Pessoa chipped in 10 for the Lightning.

Goldstein finished with a game-high 19 points, Beauchamp collected 14, and both hit several key shots to stunt any attempt by Lehman to overtake Baruch.

Clinging to a three-point lead at 35-32, Baruch got back-to-back jumpers from Goldstein and Beauchamp and a three-pointer from Mickey Abbatiello to push its lead to 42-32 with 12:10 left.  Lehman cut the lead back to six on layups by Patryk Odedina and Pessoa, but Baruch used a 14-3 run, highlighted by two Goldstein three-pointers, to put considerable distance between itself and Lehman with seven minutes to play.

The Lightning would get no closer than 14 the rest of the way.

A win for the Lightning would have improved the team to 7-4 in the conference.  Instead, Lehman drops to 6-4 with Baruch improving to 5-4.  Still, a huge game looms with Hunter on Sunday at Mount Saint Michael's Academy as the Hawks sat at 7-3 entering Friday's action.
